Report: Rangers, Phillies will hold spring training at home ballparks
Before spring training sessions resume ahead of a 2020 MLB season that will be shortened because of the coronavirus pandemic, if it happens at all, clubs must decide where they will ask players to train and prepare for the campaign.
Earlier on Friday, MLB Network's Jon Heyman reported the New York Yankees and New York Mets will fly south for spring training. While the Yankees will again call Tampa their temporary home, the Mets will return to Port St. Lucie.
On Friday afternoon, Heyman added information regarding the Texas Rangers and Philadelphia Phillies:
As Chris Halicke of Sports Illustrated wrote, the Rangers were supposed to officially open Globe Life Park with an exhibition game versus the St. Louis Cardinals on March 23. That, and all other preseason MLB events, were postponed and ultimately canceled, because of the pandemic.
As of May 22, MLB owners and the Players Association haven't agreed to terms for the resumption of spring training activities.
