Report: Red Sox interview Luis Urueta for second time in 10 months

The Boston Red Sox's search for a new manager is underway after the team decided it would be best to move on from Ron Roenicke. Boston has already reportedly interviewed Will Venable and Don Kelly for the open position, but a new candidate emerged on Friday.

According to Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes, the Red Sox have reportedly interviewed Colombian Luis Urueta for their open manager position for the second time in 10 months. Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom reportedly met with Urueta last week.

Urueta has been a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks coaching staff since 2018. The 39-year-old also is the manager of the Gigantes del Cibao in the Dominican Republic winter league and was the manager of Colombia in their debut at the World Classic of Baseball in 2017.

The Red Sox also have been linked to Alex Cora, who coached Boston to a 2018 World Series title in his first season as the team's manager. He was let go before the 2020 campaign after being suspended by Major League Baseball for his involvement in the Houston Astros' cheating scandal.

Boston isn't the only team looking at Cora, though. The Detroit Tigers are reportedly interested in the 45-year-old, too. Still, Cora is viewed as the favorite to land Boston's open manager position.
