Report: Reds planning to hold on to Luis Castillo
Rumors surfaced over the weekend that the Cincinnati Reds discussed a potential deal that would have sent Luis Castillo to the New York Yankees. According to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, an agreement was never reached because the Yankees didn't want to part ways with shortstop Gleyber Torres.
With spring training now just around the corner, it appears the Reds have no plans to move on from Castillo. Heyman says that the Reds are telling teams they plan to hold onto the 28-year-old.
Castillo has spent his entire career with the Reds. He went 4-6 during the pandemic-shortened season with a 3.21 ERA, 1.229 WHIP and 89 strikeouts in 70 innings.
The right-hander is under club control for three more years. He and the Reds avoided arbitration this offseason by agreeing to a one-year, $4.2 million deal.
Castillo remains in a rotation that includes Sonny Gray, Jeff Hoffman, Tyler Mahle and Wade Miley.
