Just a few days after the White Sox reportedly “reassigned” assistant pitching coach Curt Hasler, the organization has made more coaching staff changes.

As reported by Daryl Van Schouwen this afternoon, the White Sox will part ways with longtime coach Daryl Boston, as well as first-year hitting coach Jose Castro. Chris Johnson, the team’s assistant hitting coach, has also been reassigned within the organization, meaning the entirety of the hitting staff will look different next season.

Castro and Johnson were both in their first seasons in their roles with the White Sox. Castro, 64, entered his first season as a major-league hitting coach after serving as the assistant hitting coach with the Atlanta Braves for the previous eight years. He was part of the Braves coaching staff that won the World Series in 2021. Johnson was hired to be the Charlotte Knights hitting coach prior to the 2021 season. Before that, he was drafted by the Astros in the fourth round of the 2006 MLB Draft and appeared in parts of eight big league seasons with the Astros, Braves, Diamondbacks, Guardians, and Marlins. His coaching tenure with the White Sox is the first of his professional career.

Boston, a well-known name among White Sox fans, was the long-time first base coach and, at times, was in charge of the team’s outfield defense. He was close with former executive vice president Ken Williams, who was fired in August. According to Van Schouwen, he was liked by players and a popular figure in the clubhouse.

Van Scouwen believes more staff changes could continue to come – though, no names have surfaced as to who may be taking over some of the now-vacant positions.
