Oscar Colas began the year as a strong contender for the Chicago White Sox opening day roster. Colas, who had played only seven games above double-A, forced his way onto the big league club with a strong spring. However, the right fielder struggled in his first stint with Chicago and received a demotion.

In his first cup of coffee, Colas looked over-matched. He slashed .211/.265/.276 with one homer and seven RBIs in 84 plate appearances. The dismal start to the season earned him a demotion to triple-A Charlotte.

Since his demotion, the 24-year-old has proven himself worthy of another shot. In 212 plate appearances with the Charlotte Knights, the right fielder is hitting a .293/.359/.508 slash line with nine homers and 29 RBIs.

Over the last week, he's been on a hot streak that likely played a role in his call-up. He has 10 hits, seven of which are homers, in his last seven games. The White Sox have tried both Clint Frazier and DH/1B Gavin Sheets in right field. Both have struggled at the plate, leaving the Southsiders' top-100 prospect as their next-best option.

What's On Tap Next?

Expect to see Colas in the starting lineup against Toronto on Tuesday. The experience in Triple-A, hopefully, sharpened his skill set for more success at the big league level. The White Sox playoff chances are almost nonexistent, and letting one of their top prospects have an extended run is prudent.
