The Boston Red Sox started an overhaul of their coaching staff Monday, firing pitching coach Dave Bush and third-base coach Carlos Febles, multiple outlets reported.

Bush spent three years as the club's minor league pitching coordinator before becoming the pitching coach in advance of the 2020 season, replacing Dana LeVangie. Bush, 43, pitched in the majors for nine seasons (2004-11, 2013) with the Blue Jays, Brewers and Rangers.

The Red Sox finished 21st in the majors this season with a 4.52 team ERA.

Febles, 47, had been the Red Sox's third-base coach since November 2017, helping the club to its most recent championship in 2018. He had six seasons of major league playing experience with the Kansas City Royals (1998-2003), batting .250 in 506 games with 24 home runs and 146 RBIs.

Febles, a second baseman in his playing days, also had served as Boston's infield instructor.

The Red Sox (78-84) finished last in the American League East for the third time in the past four seasons.
