RHP Carlos Carrasco's Mets debut delayed to late May at earliest

New York Mets fans are going to have to wait a little longer to see starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco make his debut with the team that he joined via a January trade with the Cleveland Indians.

Reports surfaced last week that the 34-year-old who hasn't yet pitched this season could return to the big-league club from the torn right hamstring he suffered in March as soon as next week. However, the Mets announced on Thursday that they've moved Carrasco to the 60-day injured list:

Per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), the earliest Carrasco will be permitted to face an MLB opponent is now May 28. The AP added that manager Luis Rojas did not mention a change in Carrasco's health when speaking with reporters ahead of the Thursday afternoon matchup at the St. Louis Cardinals.

Carrasco went 3-4 with a 2.91 ERA and 82 strikeouts across 12 starts and 68 innings of work during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season with Cleveland.
