The Los Angeles Dodgers have had a busy week in terms of giving prospects an opportunity, with a trio of rookies making their MLB debuts in three consecutive days during the Washington Nationals series.

The MLB Debut Patch is a collaborate program between Fanatics Collectables, Topps, Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Player’s Association that was first implemented last season.

The premise of the program was to create a one-of-a-kind piece of memorabilia to be distributed by Topps in trading card packs.

The patch is worn on the player’s jersey for their first game in the Major Leagues before being removed and added to a rookie card. That extremely valuable and rare card is then inserted into a random Topps pack.

It’s akin to Willy Wonka’s Golden Ticket that MLB seems to be going for in an attempt to drive up baseball trading card interest and sales.

Dodgers rookies to debut in 2024

Yoshinobu Yamamoto: March 21, 2024

Yoshinobu Yamamoto was the first Dodgers player to wear the MLB Debut Patch for the 2024 season. It was not the start Yamamoto or the Dodgers expected, as he allowed five runs and threw 43 pitches in just one inning of work.

Ricky Vanasco: April 15, 2024

Ricky Vanasco entered the game in the top of the eighth and pitched two perfect innings, retiring all six batters he faced and also recorded his first Major League strikeout.

Andy Pages: April 16, 2024

Andy Pages earned his callup after an impressive start to the season with Triple-A Oklahoma City. In the second inning, Pages recorded his first Major League hit on the very first pitch he saw and later came around to score during that same inning in a 6-2 Dodgers win.

Landon Knack: April 17, 2024

Landon Knack’s first start in the Majors did not begin as planed as he allowed two runs in the first inning. However, he recovered quickly to shut down the Nationals offense the rest of the way, at one point retiring 10 batters in a row. Knack finished with four strikeouts and allowed just the two runs in five innings.
