Rob Manfred wanted Mets to partake in political stunt protest?

Amid athlete protests around the United States following the shooting of Jacob Blake, handfuls of MLB games were postponed, per player wishes, on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to comments made by New York Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen, commissioner Rob Manfred allegedly wanted members of the Mets to take part in a faux-protest before Thursday's contest versus the Miami Marlins at Citi Field.

ESPN's Jeff Passan shared a video and transcript:

Blake, a Black man, was shot at least seven times by police officers in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Sunday. He survived but was left paralyzed.

Mets first baseman Dominic Smith, who kneeled during the national anthem before Wednesday's game, was overcome with emotion when speaking with reporters following New York's 5-4 win:

As of 7:00 pm ET, at least six MLB games were postponed. The NBA, WNBA, and NHL are all off on Thursday, and the NHL also postponed Friday's Stanley Cup Playoff fixtures.
