Rockies investigating after fan directs racial slur at Marlins' Lewis Brinson

The Colorado Rockies announced Sunday night that they are investigating after a racial slur was used by a fan during an at-bat by Miami Marlins outfielder Lewis Brinson, who is Black, at Coors Field.

Microphones on the Bally Sports Florida broadcast picked up a fan yelling the N-word multiple times during Brinson's at-bat during the ninth inning of Colorado's 13-8 win, according to ESPN.

Marlins spokesman Jason Latimer said Brinson and the other players on the field and in the dugout did not hear what was shouted.

MLB Players Association executive director Tony Clark also said in a statement, "we have to continue to work together to ensure that racism is never tolerated on or off the field."

Following Sunday's game, Brinson, who later heard what was shouted toward him, posted a photo of himself to Instagram with the caption, "Keep going."

Brinson went 2-for-4 with two RBI during Sunday's game. He has been with the Marlins since 2018.

The 27-year-old is hitting .261/.296/.445 this season with four home runs and 17 RBI.
