Rockies place OF Kris Bryant on 10-day IL, call-up No. 4 prospect Elehuris Montero

The Colorado Rockies have placed outfielder Kris Bryant on the 10-day injured list with a back strain.

Bryant was scratched from the Rockies' lineup on Tuesday with back soreness. On Wednesday, Colorado manager Bud Black said he didn't expect Bryant's issues to lead to a stint on the injured list. However, Bryant's condition didn't improve over the next few days, prompting Colorado to make the roster move.

In his first season with the Rockies, Bryant has batted .281 with a .338 on-base percentage and .351 slugging percentage. In 15 games, Bryant has 16 hits and four RBI with five walks and 11 runs scored.

The 30-year-old Bryant signed a seven-year, $182 million contract with the Rockies in the offseason.

Colorado called up its No. 4 rated prospect from Triple-A Albuquerque, infielder Elehuris Montero, to replace Bryant's spot on the 26-man roster.

The 23-year-old Montero played in 10 major league spring training games, batting .261 with a .320 on-base percentage while slugging .435.

In 20 games this season at Triple-A, Montero is batting .288, with a .356 on-base and .450 slugging percentage. He has four home runs, 12 RBI, and 23 hits in 91 plate appearances.
