Rockies, right-hander Antonio Senzatela agree to five-year, $50.5 million extension

The Colorado Rockies and right-hander Antonio Senzatela have agreed to a five-year, $50.5 million extension, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Before the extension, Senzatela was set to be arbitration-eligible for two more seasons before hitting free agency after the 2023 season. Now he's under contract through at least 2026.

Senzatela has spent his entire five-year career with the Rockies. He went 4-10 during the 2020 season with a 4.42 ERA, 1.340 WHIP and 105 strikeouts in 156.2 innings across 28 starts.

One of the 26-year-old's most impressive moments came when he pitched eight scoreless innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Coors Field in his second start of the year.

With Senzatela locked up, the Rockies have most of their pitching staff lined up for 2022, with German Marquez, Kyle Freeland, Austin Gomber and potentially Jon Gray back in the rotation.

Colorado finished 74-87, fourth in the NL West. The club hasn't made the playoffs since 2018.
