The San Francisco Giants are getting an elite version of starting pitcher Alex Cobb right now.

Cobb is carving out a little piece of Giants history right now, too, accomplishing something that hasn't been done for the franchise in the last five years.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com on Twitter:

Alex Cobb now has 4 scoreless starts this year of 7+ IP

that’s the most by a Giants pitcher in a single season since Madison Bumgarner had 4 in 2018

last Giant with MORE such starts in a season was Bumgarner in ’16, with 5

Cobb went 7.2 innings on Saturday night a in a 4-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles. In the process, he lowered his season ERA to 2.71 and moved to 5-2 overall.

This season continues a remarkable late-career turnaround for the 35-year-old right-hander.

From 2018-2020 with the Orioles, Cobb went 7-22 on the mound. He then won eight games with the Angels in 2021 and seven with the Giants last year before posting these numbers this year.

He's pitched with the Rays, Orioles, Angels and Giants in his career.

Lifetime, he's 75-70 with a 3.78 ERA. He's pitched in 214 career games since his debut in 2011.

He's a former fourth-round pick of the Rays in the 2006 draft out of the Florida high school ranks.

The Giants are 29-29 on the season and in third place in the National League West. They trail the Dodgers and Diamondbacks by 5.5 games.

The Giants and Orioles will play again on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET.
