The New York Mets lost to the San Francisco Giants on Friday night, 5-4, continuing their disappointing season.

But the Mets disappointment was the triumph of Giants catcher Patrick Bailey.

The rookie joined some impressive baseball history in the win, doing something that hasn't been done since Carlton Fisk nearly 50 years ago.

Per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:

Recapping Patrick Bailey's night for the @SFGiants

- hit a go-ahead HR with his team trailing on the road (8th)

- threw out the potential tying run on a SB attempt (9th)

The last MLB catcher to accomplish both feats in the 8th inning or later was Carlton Fisk on June 15, 1976.

Any time you are mentioned in the same company as a Hall of Famer, you've done something impressive. Bailey certainly has made an impact on the Giants since being called up. After the 1-4 night with the homer and three RBI, he's now hitting .322 this season. He has five homers, 26 RBI and an OPS of .904 through his first 115 at-bats.

The 24-year-old switch-hitter was a first-round pick of the Giants in the 2020 draft out of North Carolina State. He made his debut back on May 19 of this year.

With the win, the Giants are 46-36 on the season and trail the Arizona Diamondbacks by 2.5 games for first place in the National League West. They also trail the Dodgers by a 0.5 games for second place. They are the holders of the final wild card spot right now.

The Giants and Mets will play each other again on Saturday at 4:10 p.m. ET.
