Scott Boras tells MLB players to reject proposal for 2020 season

After MLB owners agreed to a proposal to start the 2020 season amid the coronavirus pandemic that includes a 50-50 revenue split with the players, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported negotiations between the league and the MLB Players Association are expected to be "contentious."
It appears Passan is spot on.

Late Monday afternoon, agent Scott Boras told Sports Illustrated he's urging the union to reject the plan:

“The players I represent are unified in that they reached an agreement and they sacrificed anywhere from 30 to 40% of their salaries so that the games could amicably continue,” said Boras. “The owners represented during that negotiation that they could operate without fans in the ballpark. Based on that, we reached an agreement and there will not be a renegotiation of that agreement.”

As SI's Stephanie Apstein wrote, the players association and MLB agreed in March to a deal that would pro-rate salaries in the event of a season shortened by the pandemic. The union also believes existing television and sponsorship deals should lead to the players refusing to accept the revenue split even if games are played behind closed doors and without spectators at ballparks.

Like other sports around the world, MLB came to a halt in March due to the virus outbreak. The proposal the league will offer players on Tuesday includes the restart of spring training in June, a potential Opening Day on or around July 4, and a universal designated hitter
