USA TODAY Sports

Seattle Mariners rookie pitcher Bryce Miller made his major league debut on Tuesday night in Oakland against the Athletics, and he was electric.

The righty came up from Double-A to take the place of the injured Easton McGee and the poor performing Chris Flexen and did not disappoint. He struck out ten batters over six innings and routinely threw his fastball in the upper 90s. He featured a good curveball and a sharp slider as well.

He had a perfect game through five innings and didn't allow his first hit until the bottom of the sixth inning. Unfortunately for him, the Mariners offense was inept while he was on the mound, getting no-hit itself through the first seven innings.

As a result of that offensive ineptitude, Miller was on the wrong end of some baseball history:

Per OptaSTATS on Twitter: "Bryce Miller of the @Mariners is the only pitcher in the modern era to have 10+ strikeouts and no walks in his MLB debut but not get the win."

At that rate, you just feel bad for the kid. Miller allowed only two hits and one run in his debut and has nothing to show for it. Luckily for him, the Mariners got a hit and run in the top of the eighth inning which at least took Miller off the hook for the loss. They then took the lead later in the inning, which put the team in position for a win.

He absolutely didn't deserve a loss.

The 24-year-old was a fourth-round pick of the Mariners in the 2021 draft out of Texas A&M.

Pick him up in your fantasy leagues where available.
