The Seattle Mariners gutted out a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday afternoon at T-Mobile Park.

The M's recorded a series win against the Halos and moved to 81-64 on the year. As a result, they pulled into a tie with the Texas Rangers for the second wild card spot in the American League.

They also pulled ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays by 0.5 games in the race as well.

In the win, Julio Rodriguez, Cal Raleigh and Teoscar Hernandez had RBI hits but the team was also fueled by the performance of ace pitcher Luis Castillo.

Castillo went 6.0 strong innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits. He walked three and struck out eight in moving to 13-7 on the year with a 3.08 ERA.

He also extended a league-leading incredible streak.

Per @MarinersPR on social media:

Luis Castillo has recorded 5.0+ innings in all 30 of his starts this season, most in @MLB

Castillo has gone 6.0+ innings in 21 of his 30 outings, recording 17 quality starts.

Castillo has been everything the Mariners could have wanted when they acquired him at the trade deadline in 2022 from the Cincinnati Reds.

In his seventh year overall, he's 61-62 with a 3.50 ERA. This year, he's struck out 199 batters in 181.1 innings.

The Mariners will get a much-needed day off on Thursday before starting a very tough series on Friday with the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have the second-best record in the National League.

First pitch in that game is set for 10:10 p.m. ET.
