The Kyle Wright experiment hasn’t gone according to plan since Atlanta used the fifth overall pick on him in the 2017 MLB Draft. Wright was given the biggest signing bonus since 2011 at $7 million. He hasn’t met expectations on a consistent basis thus far, but he has shown flashes of what can make him so special at times, especially during the 2021 World Series.

Wright was insanely clutch, saving the Braves against the Astros with 5.2 strong innings of one hit ball. Wright struck out six, showing what makes him so special. I’ve said multiple times you can’t just give up on a guy with that type of makeup. In 2020, Wright had an incredible postseason start against the Marlins before a disastrous game against the Dodgers. However, the question is — can he be consistent enough to start in Atlanta to begin 2022?

Spring may tell the team a lot, but I hope so. The free agent market for starting pitchers is ridiculous, but Atlanta still has Touki Toussaint,  Huascar Ynoa, Tucker Davidson, and Kyle Muller to utilize if need be. The Braves could also make a trade to help in the short-term. At some point, Wright is going to have to sink or swim, but it would be a huge gamble to throw him out there without a backup plan as the Braves attempt to repeat.
