The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants only managed to complete two innings on Thursday night before the game was canceled due to inclement weather.

First pitch at Scottsdale Stadium was at 7:05 p.m. local and accompanied by a steady rainfall from the moment it began. The game was curiously sent into a rain delay in the third inning before getting called off nearly 10 minutes later.

It ended in a scoreless tie, and with the Dodgers looking to take a lead after Miguel Rojas and Will Smith both drew a two-out walk.

Giants starter Kyle Harrison struck out six of the first eight batters faced, but then began to struggle with maintaining his footing and a grip on the baseball. The ground screw applied dry dirt to the mound and around home plate before the game was postponed.

James Paxton walked two batters and collected three strikeouts over two innings. The veteran left-hander was looking to stretch out in his second Spring Training start.

Paxton signed a one-year contract with the Dodgers during the offseason and had his deal reworked from the original agreement because of some health concerns. However, the veteran left-hander hasn’t had any trouble with his right knee or other prior injury.

“It feels good,” Paxton said of his health after making a first start for the Dodgers. “Just timing things up. Felt a little bit like things were not clicking out there, but I felt good with where we’re at. Kind of right where I should be right now.”

Next for Dodgers

The Dodgers are scheduled to play another night game on Friday, though at Camelback Ranch, when they face the Cincinnati Reds.

The Dodgers’ 2024 Spring Training schedule finishes with five of their last six games coming at home.
