Stud Orioles prospect to open season in minors

Despite another strong showing in spring training, Baltimore Orioles top prospect Jackson Holliday's MLB debut will have to wait.

The middle infielder is not only the top prospect on the O's but also No. 1 on MLB Pipeline's list.

Baltimore selected Holliday with the first overall pick in 2022 and will be joined by 2020 second overall pick Heston Kjerstad, among others, in opening the 2024 campaign in the minors.

Just 18 years old when he was drafted, few expected Holliday to make it to the show in 2022.

He rolled through the minors last season and advanced to Triple-A in September.

The son of former seven-time All-Star outfielder Matt Holliday seemed to be on the verge of debuting with Baltimore last year but ultimately finished his season with the Norfolk Tides.

Holliday hit 12 home runs and posted 75 RBI, 24 stolen bases and a .323/.442/.499 slash line in 125 minor league games last year across four levels.

With a solid spring, many fans expected the five-tool talent would have a shot at making Baltimore's Opening Day roster.

Holliday responded by going 14-for-45 (.311) with two home runs, six RBI and two stolen bases over 15 games, adding three doubles and two triples.

There doesn't appear to be much more for the 20-year-old to prove, so expect to see Holliday in the majors sometime this spring or summer.
