The Tennessee Vols are one of the programs to beat for one of the best safeties in the 2025 recruiting class.

2025 four-star safety Trey McNutt recently spoke to 247Sports about his recruitment and he mentioned Tennessee, Michigan, and Ohio State as three of the programs that are standing out to him.

McNutt, who visited Knoxville last season for the Vols' blowout win against South Carolina, praised Tennessee's coaches and the UT fan base while speaking with 247Sports.

“Man I just remember going to the game,” said McNutt. "It was electric down there. It was a night game. They were in their black uniforms. The experience I had was great. I know the coaches out there, it’s a good coaching staff. They’re going to take care of me. Tennessee they have a great fanbase and all that.”

McNutt, 6-foot/180 lbs from Cleveland, OH, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 2 safety in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Ohio. He's also rated as the No. 36 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.

Oregon is also a program that could be in the mix for McNutt as he works to come to a decision over the next several months.
