After a few successful years starting with the Baltimore Orioles, even winning the Comeback Player of the Year Award in 2021, Trey Mancini was traded to the Houston Astros during the 2022 season. While his usual play did not translate well in the 2022 postseason, he was still part of a championship-winning club. Mancini signed a deal with the Chicago Cubs last season, but by August 2nd he was released from the team. Later in the month, he signed a minor-league deal with the Cincinnati Reds. A free agent this offseason, the 31-year-old first baseman/outfielder has just signed a minor-league deal with the Miami Marlins, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Hopefully, this new deal, which includes a spring training invite with the Marlins, will return Trey Mancini’s career to a promising status.

Trey Mancini Has Just Signed with the Marlins

Mancini’s best pitch to hit was the fastball, slugging it at .369. The fastball was also Trey’s worst enemy sometimes, as he had a strikeout percentage of 38 percent against the pitch. While he only saw a changeup 95 times in 2023, he slugged .481 against that particular off-speed pitch. Trey Mancini’s worst pitch to hit in 2023 was the curveball. Out of 86 times he saw the curveball he batted an average of  .125 and a slugging percentage of .188.

Mancini needs to have an effective 2024 season if he wants to have longevity in his career, and it starts with simply being better at the plate. When it comes to knowing the pitcher, what kind of pitches they throw, and where on the plate. If Mancini can dive into the analytics of the game, and become aware of pitches, he can relinquish his seven-year career.

2023 Stats for the 2021 Comeback Player of the Year

In 79 games with the Chicago Cubs last season, and in 235 at-bats, Mancini recorded 55 hits, four home runs, and 28 runs batted in. He had a batting average of .234. Mancini’s best game with the Cubs happened on April 21st against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In a 13-0 win, he went three for five with a home run and three runs batted in.
