With a payroll of around $120 million, the Diamondbacks find themselves ranked 21st in the league, a stark contrast to their World Series opponents, the Texas Rangers, who boast a payroll over $100 million greater.

What’s even more surprising is the fact that the Diamondbacks’ highest-paid player this season is Madison Bumgarner, a player who was designated for assignment within a month into the season.

The 34-year-old veteran currently earns $18 million with Arizona, while Ketel Marte, the second-highest earner, receives $11.6 million.

Bumgarner’s season got off to a rocky start with an 0-3 record and a whopping 10.26 ERA over 16 innings, prompting the Diamondbacks to make the decision to cut ties with him in mid-April.

Nevertheless, if the Diamondbacks manage to clinch a World Series win, Bumgarner will earn his fourth championship ring.

This would make him the ninth most decorated pitcher in MLB history.

While Bumgarner’s playing career may be winding down, he still has the potential for another significant milestone to look forward to.
