The Cleveland Guardians made a few trades on Tuesday night.
The defending American League Central champions shipped off right-handed pitcher Carlos Vargas to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for 23-year-old right-hander Ross Carver.
They also traded away former top prospect Nolan Jones to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for infielder Juan Brito, whose contract the team subsequently selected as they added him to their 40-man roster.
On Twitter, the Guardians updated their fans on the moves that were made last night, and also created a few graphics to thank both Jones and Vargas for their time spent in Guardians uniforms.
Guardians Ship Off Jones
The Jones trade may come as a surprise to some Guardians fans.
Jones finally made his MLB debut after several years in the minor leagues.
The 24-year-old was drafted in 2016 out of Holy Ghost Prep High School in Bensalem, PA and was taken in the second round.
Jones appeared in just 28 games with the Guardians, hitting two home runs, driving in 13 runs, and hitting for a .244 average in 86 at-bats.
Jones was once considered a top prospect in the Guardians organization.
At Triple-A Columbus, Jones hit for a .276 average and popped nine homers, driving in 43 and posting an OPS of .831.
Cleveland won the American League Central for the first time since 2018, winning 92 games along the way.
Jones hit both of his first two home runs at Kauffman Stadium against the Kansas City Royals.
He will now have a fresh start with the Rockies in 2023 and will likely get a chance to compete for a roster spot in spring training.
