On Tuesday night, it was Taijuan Walker.
The New York Mets have been dealt two significant blows to their rotation in the past few days.
After Carrasco suffered an oblique injury, Walker was pulled from last night’s start with back spasms.
Walker lasted just two innings before exiting last night’s game against the Atlanta Braves.
He allowed one hit and walked two batters in two scoreless innings.
Walker is just the latest Mets pitcher to go down, and after his exit, R.J. Alvarez and Stephen Nogosek allowed five runs as the Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves by a final of 5-0.
Testing The Mets Pitching Depth
The timing of this injury couldn’t be worse.
Even after getting Jacob deGrom back, the Mets are still running a little thin on starting rotation depth.
Carrasco was obviously injured on Monday night.
That oblique injury will keep him out for three to four weeks.
There aren’t any new updates on Walker as of now, but this is just the latest blow for a Mets rotation that has struggled to stay healthy all season long.
He’ll have an MRI today to determine the severity of the injury
The bullpen was once again taxed, and the Mets saw their lead in the NL East decrease to 3.5 games over the defending World Series champions.
The Mets have guys like Tylor Megill, Trevor Williams, and David Peterson who could fill the holes left by the recent injuries, but with two guys down, the depth continues to run thin for New York.
Time will tell whether or not Walker will be out for an extended period of time, but this was the last thing the Mets needed with the Braves nipping at their heels.
