The New York Mets were busy at the trade deadline, acquiring three separate bats to help them increase their depth at the designated hitter position.

They acquired two solid left-handed bats in trades with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds.

Daniel Vogelbach came over from Pittsburgh, while Tyler Naquin was acquired from Cincinnati.

They also picked up a solid right-handed bat when they acquired Darin Ruf from the underperforming San Francisco Giants.

So far, all three hitters have done their part since arriving in New York.

MLB Network tweeted a screenshot featuring all three hitters’ stats since the Mets picked them up.

The stats were current before Wednesday’s win over Cincinnati.

Key Moves

These guys have provided a spark for the Mets in a place where they really needed one.

The designated hitter position was a spot where they were lacking in production and depth.

But with these three acquisitions, the Mets have a little more flexibility.

Naquin is also a guy who can serve as a backup outfielder.

Each hitter has an OPS of at least .800 since joining the Mets, which goes to show that as of now, the Mets have benefitted the most from the trade deadline and the moves that they made to improve their club.

The Mets already looked like a true World Series contender, but they look even deeper now.

Their offense got the spark they needed with the additions of Vogelbach, Naquin, and Ruf.

These are three veteran guys who have been a part of some solid teams and know what it takes to win.

So far, they have all been godsends.

We’ll see if these guys can continue to provide a spark for the Mets as the rest of the season plays out.
