After being surprisingly fired by the Chicago Cubs, former manager David Ross was apparently on the radar for the New York Yankees with regards to their coaching staff.

Ken Rosenthal of 'The Athletic,' had the information, along with reporting from Brendan Kuty:

The Yankees indeed approached Ross about replacing (Carlos) Mendoza, who will be the Mets’ new manager. But according to league sources who were granted anonymity in exchange for their candor, Ross would prefer to manage if he immediately jumps back into a uniformed position.

The article makes note of the fact that Ross and Yankees' manager Aaron Boone worked together at ESPN for a stretch of time and have a good prior relationship, but evidently Ross wants to manager or take the year off it appears.

The Padres, Astros and Brewers all have managerial openings right now but it's unclear if Ross is a candidate for any of those jobs at this point. The Mets, Angels, and Guardians have all recently filled their openings.

Also per the reporting:

With Ross an unlikely addition, the Yankees are contemplating other candidates for their bench-coach vacancy. Brad Ausmus and Andrew Bailey are among those under consideration, sources said. Another option for the Yankees is to move Luis Rojas, the former Mets’ manager, from third base coach to bench coach, and hire a new third-base coach.

Ross had served as the Cubs' skipper for four seasons. He went 262-284 and had one postseason appearance (2020).

The 46-year-old spent 15 years in the big leagues as a player. He won the World Series in 2013 with the Red Sox and 2016 with the Cubs.
