MLB: Boston Red Sox at Toronto Blue Jays ? Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

The Bradley Zimmer era is over in Toronto.

The Philadelphia Phillies announced on Thursday that they’ve claimed Zimmer off of waivers from the Blue Jays…

The Blue Jays designated Zimmer for assignment earlier this week in order to open up room on the active roster to activate George Springer from the Injured List. The move also appeared inevitable once the Blue Jays signed Jackie Bradley Jr., a veteran outfielder who would essentially be used in the same role that Zimmer had been playing.

Zimmer had a difficult run with the Blue Jays at the plate, as he went 8-for-76 with two home runs and three runs batted in along with a 33-to-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio. While Zimmer was a black hole with the bat, he did provide the Blue Jays value with his speed and glove in centre field, so it isn’t all that surprising that another team decided to pick him up.
