The Chicago White Sox season nears its end.

After winning 93 games a season ago en route to an American League Central division title, their first since 2008, the White Sox had somewhat of a letdown in 2022.

With their loss on Wednesday night to the Minnesota Twins, they were eliminated from postseason contention.

One of the many problems in 2022 was their lack of starting pitching depth.

Beyond Dylan Cease, there wasn’t much to write home about.

Lance Lynn and Lucas Giolito both struggled with injuries and put together less than stellar seasons.

Meanwhile, left-hander Carlos Rodon, who the White Sox let go last offseason, ultimately signed with the San Francisco Giants and will likely be in the top five for NL Cy Young voting.

The White Sox’s Biggest Mistake

If there’s one thing the White Sox probably regret, this would be it.

Things could have been so much easier had they not let Rodon go.

Rodon has gone 14-8 this season with a 2.88 ERA and threw six scoreless innings last night against the Colorado Rockies to keep their postseason hopes alive.

Rodon and Cease alongside one another would have made for a deadly one-two punch in that White Sox rotation and could have helped offset some of the issues that were bringing Lynn and Giolito down.

Could it have helped the White Sox reach the postseason?

Potentially.

But now we’ll never know.

Rodon went out west and one thing is for certain.

The White Sox are missing him right now.

Letting him walk was a huge mistake and one that the Giants took full advantage of.

The White Sox will have to sit on this one for a while.
