Once again, today's date in Philadelphia Phillies history is a light one, but there are some things to share.

First, we begin in 2011, when Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino was recognized for his contributions to the Boys & Girls Clubs in both Philadelphia and his native Hawaii.

Victorino was the recipient of the 2011 Branch Rickey Award and was inducted as the 20th member of the Baseball Humanitarians Hall of Fame.

Through his foundation, Victorino pledged more than $900,000 to renovate the 105 year-old Nicetown Boys & Girls Club, located in an impoverished section of Philadelphia, into the centerpiece of the organization's twelve facilities in the city.

And in 2019, former Phillies manager Gabe Kapler officially parts ways with the team when the San Francisco Giants hire him to be their new manager, replacing Bruce Bochy.

Bochy announced his retirement after winning three World Series during his 13 seasons with the team. Kapler, who was fired by the Phillies in Oct. 2019 with a year left on his contract, has since found success in San Francisco, after leading Philadelphia to an overall record of 161-163 in two seasons.

In 2021, the Giants unexpectedly had the best record in baseball at 107-55, also the best in franchise history. As a result, Kapler is a finalist for National League Manager of the Year. Go figure.
