As we get deeper into the offseason, the history for the Philadelphia Phillies starts to quickly dry up. It only makes sense. Today was particularly light however. The only note of historical importance occurred in 1993.

It was on this day that Lenny Dykstra finished behind Barry Bonds in MVP voting for the 1993 Most Valuable Player award. Bonds went on to win his third MVP. Dykstra did lead the league in at bats, walks, hits, and runs. It was undoubtedly a special year for the center fielder.

Dykstra helped lead the Phillies to the World Series where they went on to lose to the Toronto Blue Jays. Perhaps the most impressive part of his season was his durability. He played in 161 games and set a major league record for 773 plate appearances.

Today is also former Phillies catcher Andrew Knapp's birthday. He was born in 1991 making him 30-years-old today. He was outrighted by the team on November 5 after hitting an abysmal .152/.215/.214. Philadelphia will likely look internally for their next backup catcher with Rafael Marchan being a leading candidate.
