The dust has officially cleared following the contract tender deadline. We now know which players were non-tendered by their respective teams. On the Brewers, just four were non-tendered. Across the league, there are a lot of newly available players to pick from. In this article, we will take a look at three players that the Brewers could target.
1) 3B Brian Anderson
The professional baseball player Brian Anderson, not the Brewers play-by-play announcer, has spent all six of his seasons with the Marlins. Unfortunately, injuries over the past two years have limited him and hampered his production. With a $5.2M projected salary in 2023, the Marlins elected to non-tender him.
At his best, Anderson can be a solid bat in the lineup. He can hit for a decent average (.260-.270), contribute in the teens in regards to home runs, and is a contact hitter with a knack for drawing free passes. Anderson is one of the more intriguing players that was non-tendered and likely will be seeking an every day role on whichever team signs him.
2) LHP Ryan Yarbrough
Amidst a roster crunching deadline, the Tampa Bay Rays designated Ryan Yarbrough for assignment. They eventually then elected to non-tender him at the deadline. The left-handed pitcher has had some success as well as struggles throughout his five year MLB career and is projected to make $4.2M in arbitration next season.
The soft tossing south paw is now looking for a new team. He is a below average strikeout pitcher but in general he fills the zone with strikes. Craig Counsell loves pitchers who can eat up innings and Yarbrough certainly fits that bill.
3) RHP Alex Reyes
Reyes, a former St. Louis Cardinal, has a ton of potential. Unfortunately injuries have plagued his career to the tune of three shoulder surgeries during his time in the big leagues. He now is a bullpen pitcher on the market with closing experience and a career 11.0 K:9 ratio.
The Brewers have added a lot of new arms to their bullpen already. Adding in a player like Reyes is just the type of move they should make. When healthy, he is a game changer and the Brewers certainly need some more guys with high leverage experience in their bullpen.
