Ticket prices plummeting for NLCS Game 3 in Phoenix

The Arizona Diamondbacks may believe that they can overcome an 0-2 NLCS deficit against the Philadelphia Phillies, but their fans don't appear to have any faith.

According to SeatGeek, tickets for Thursday's third game in Phoenix can be purchased for as little as $6.

By comparison, should the series return to Philadelphia, the cheapest tickets for a potential Game 6 on Monday are $303. That price doubles to $651 for a hypothetical Game 7.

A seat behind home plate for Game 3 at Chase Field is going for $377. That same amount could only buy you an upper-deck seat for Game 6 at Citizens Bank Park.

In fairness, is a 0-2 deficit demoralizing to a fan base? Yes.

Is a 2:07 p.m. first pitch on a Thursday afternoon a tough sell? Yes.

Still, this is the penultimate round of the MLB postseason. The winner advances to the World Series. Six dollars just to get in?

If these prices are foreshadowing, there could be a lot of empty seats on Thursday.

According to Stathead from Baseball Reference, the smallest crowd to see a League Championship Series game - excluding 2020 - was 24,265. That number was set in Oakland in 1973. In the early years of the LCS, every game was played during the day. Even though it was a Thursday afternoon, the A's and the Baltimore Orioles were playing a winner-take-all Game 5. Despite the circumstances, the Oakland Coliseum wasn't even half-full.

One of the lower attendance figures in NLCS history came in 2001. 37,729 in a 48,000-seat stadium came to Game 1 on a Tuesday afternoon.

That venue? Chase Field.

Arizona better hope the remaining tickets go fast for Thursday's game. Otherwise, it's going to be the NL's answer to Tropicana Field.
