Tigers could soon be receiving an update to Comerica Park

The Detroit Tigers have been playing baseball at Comerica Park since the stadium opened in 2000.

That's 23 years of baseball, and while some of it has been good baseball — for instance, Detroit's run from 2006 to 2013 that saw the Tigers make the World Series twice — much of it has been underwhelming.

Speaking of underwhelming, a common talking point among Tigers fans is the deteriorating state of the park, which has often matched the state of the team.

With that said, hope springs eternal in Detroit with the emergence of young stars such as Spencer Torkelson, Riley Greene and Kerry Carpenter. Per owner Chris Ilitch, there's also hope for renovations to the place many fondly refer to as CoPa.

“We try to be very disciplined at Comerica Park and each and every year ... just keep investing in the facility and keeping it fresh and exciting and make sure that customer experience stays high,” Ilitch recently said at a business conference (h/t The Detroit News). "Having said that, at some point we are going to take it to the next level and really do something more meaningful because we are seeing how people are reacting to the Little Caesars (Arena) environment.”

The Ilitch family also owns the Detroit Red Wings, and to his last point, fans in the Detroit area do seem to like the modern amenities at Little Caesars Arena, which was opened in 2017 and is the home of the Red Wings and Detroit Pistons.

It's worth noting that the Tigers did make some changes to the outfield walls this past season, but many more updates are needed to make the park more current.
