Tigers' Eduardo Rodriguez on restricted list 'until further notice' for personal matters

Detroit Tigers starting left-handed pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez last took the bump in mid-May and has been on the injured list since May 22 because of a strain of his left rib cage.

It does not appear Rodriguez will be returning to the active roster anytime soon.

"Eduardo Rodriguez has informed the club that due to personal matters he will not rejoin the team at this time," Tigers general manager Al Avila explained in a brief statement released ahead of Monday's home game against the Chicago White Sox. "As a result, Eduardo has been placed on the restricted list until further notice."

Rodriguez joined the Tigers in November ahead of the lockout via a five-year deal reportedly worth $77 million and went 1-3 with a 4.38 ERA in his first eight starts with the club before his setback. According to an ESPN update, the 29-year-old made a rehab start for Triple-A Toledo last week.

Tigers manager AJ Hinch told reporters on Monday afternoon that "the statement is what it is" regarding Rodriguez's status.

"The restricted list part is the relationship between the player and the organization," Hinch added during his comments. "I knew he wasn't gonna make his start, wasn't going to pitch in the minor leagues or major leagues at this time. This was inevitable."

The 24-35 Tigers began Monday trailing the first-place Minnesota Twins by 9.5 games in the American League Central standings.
