Tigers' Miguel Cabrera joins MLB's 3,000-hit club
Miguel Cabrera joined historic company Saturday when he belted a single into right field, joining MLB's 3,000-hit club.
Cabrera, 39, entered the 2022 season just 13 hits away from the milestone and needed just 13 games to reach the mark. His single against the Colorado Rockies made him the 33rd player to ever record 3,000 hits and only the seventh player to notch the milestone and record than 500 career home runs.
On Thursday, the New York Yankees were met with loud boos from the Detroit crowd when the team opted to intentionally walk Cabrera in his final at-bat of the game, keeping him at 2,999 career hits for two more days.
Cabrera made his major league debut in 2003 with the Florida Marlins and recorded 842 hits in five seasons before he was traded to the Tigers in December 2007. He reached a massive extension with Detroit prior to the 2008 season and has spent the rest of his career with the team.
In 2012, Cabrera became the first player since 1967 to win the Triple Crown, leading MLB in home runs (44), RBI (139) and batting average (.330). He won the AL MVP that year and won it again in 2013.
