Tigers place first baseman C.J. Cron on injured list with knee sprain

On Tuesday, the Detroit Tigers confirmed that first baseman C.J. Cron was placed on the injured list due to a left knee sprain.

Detroit recalled infielder Willi Castro from the club's affiliate training site.

Cron started Monday's game versus the Chicago White Sox but departed the contest in the fourth inning due to the knee injury. Cron suffered the setback in the top half of the frame after his leg was struck by a line drive.

The 30-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Tigers last December. After 13 games and 42 at-bats this season, he's hitting .190 with four home runs, eight RBI and 16 strikeouts.
