'Timmy Trumpet' hopes to play Edwin Diaz's walkout song live at Citi Field

To borrow from the famous adage: If, at first, you can't blow your trumpet, you must try, try again.

It was learned last week that Timothy Smith, better known as "Timmy Trumpet," would attend Tuesday's game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets held at Citi Field with the hope that he would be able to play the "Narco" song that Mets closer Edwin Diaz uses as walkout music.

While Smith was given the honor of throwing a ceremonial first pitch ahead of the game, the Dodgers kept Diaz a spectator and defeated the Amazins 4-3. As Audacy's Jesse Pantuosco explained, however, the Australian-born music star who created "Narco" along with Blasterjaxx has vowed to be back in Queens for the Wednesday evening battle between the clubs.

Smith didn't get to play "Narco" live on Tuesday, but he nevertheless entertained fans with a spirited version of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" during the seventh-inning stretch:

"It’s absolutely insane," Smith said about Diaz's entrance that made "Narco" go viral on multiple occasions this summer, per Anthony DiComo of the Mets' website. "It’s incredibly humbling and a great honor that a world-class athlete is using my song as inspiration to run on that pitch. This guy’s such a professional, he could do this with any song. But I’m very thankful to the Mets supporters and anyone that’s adding this track to their playlist and supporting 'Narco.'"

There's no guarantee Smith will get to play "Narco" on Wednesday. After all, the 90-38 Dodgers began the afternoon holding the best overall record in all of MLB.
