After just adding him to the organization, catcher Brian Serven has been outrighted to Triple-A by the Toronto Blue Jays.

We recently wrote about Serven joining the organization and thought that he may contend for an Opening Day roster spot, but evidently the team is set to go with Alejando Kirk and Danny Jansen only.

The Jays successfully snuck him through waivers, so he'll report to Triple-A Buffalo to start the season and will work for an opportunity to arise at the big league level.

The 28-year-old California native has appeared in the majors in parts of two seasons, both with the Colorado Rockies. He played in 62 games during the 2022 season and just 11 in 2023. Lifetime, he's a .195 hitter with six home runs.

The Blue Jays have cleared a roster spot off the 40-man through this transaction and are now free to officially add pitcher Yariel Rodriguez, who they recently agreed to a deal with.

If Serven is to make an appearance in the majors for Toronto, he'll join a team that's a ready-made American League contender. The Jays have made the playoffs each of the last two seasons and feature a great young core, anchored by both Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. They also have a robust pitching staff with Jose Berrios, Kevin Gausman, Yusei Kikuchi, Chris Bassitt and Alek Manoah, along with Rodriguez.

Toronto finished third in the American League East a season ago and was beaten in the wild card round of the playoffs by the Minnesota Twins.
