Trevor Bauer won't testify after attorneys inform judge he would invoke Fifth Amendment

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer was expected to invoke the Fifth Amendment on Thursday in connection to a domestic violence restraining order filed against him, ESPN reported.

According to the report, Bauer's attorneys told the judge presiding over the case that Bauer will state his full name and occupation but will not answer any follow-up questions. As such, the judge determined Bauer did not have to testify because it "would be an exercise in futility," according to ESPN.

Thursday marks the fourth and final day of the hearing in L.A. County Superior Court. It will determine if the current domestic violence restraining order against Bauer will be permanent.

Bauer has been on paid administrative leave from the MLB since July 2 and has had his leave extended multiple times as the Pasadena Police Department investigates allegation he sexually assaulted a woman. Bauer maintains the encounters were consensual and denies any wrongdoing.
