Trio of aces exit Monday starts with injuries

Monday was a big night for big MLB arms on the mound, with aces such as Corbin Burnes, Jacob deGrom and Hunter Greene all making starts. Unfortunately for fans of the Milwaukee Brewers, Texas Rangers and Cincinnati Reds respectively, all three aces went down with various injuries during their outings.

The Brewers can ill-afford to lose Burnes for any extended period of time. Milwaukee is already without two-time All-Star Brandon Woodruff, who is on the injured list with a shoulder issue.

According to Corey Brock of The Athletic, Brewers manager Craig Counsell said that the 2021 NL Cy Young Award winner suffered a left pectoral strain and the team will "just kind of see how he feels over the next couple of days."

In deGrom's case, it seems like Rangers fans may know more about the team's prized offseason acquisition on Tuesday. It's good news that the team called the move precautionary and notable that deGrom said he's "not too concerned," but as all baseball fans should know by now, you can never be too careful with the righty when it comes to his health.

The two-time NL Cy Young Award winner hasn't made over 15 starts or reached 100 innings pitched in a season since 2019.

Greene is the youngest and least accomplished of the trio but is oozing with more potential than nearly every other pitcher in the game. The 2017 second overall draft pick regularly hits over 100 mph on the radar gun and racked up 164 strikeouts in 125 2/3 innings pitched as a rookie last year.

Greene is 0-0 with a 5.14 ERA and 1.64 WHIP over three starts this season, with 23 strikeouts and six walks in 14 innings as well.
