A minor league baseball game in Moosic, Pa., was postponed Tuesday due to poor air quality and "an abundance of caution for potential health concerns" as smoke from Canadian wildfires spread through the Northeast U.S.

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, were set to host the Norfolk Tides, an affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.

The RailRiders said in a tweet that they will play a doubleheader with the Tides "later this week" and they would treat tickets for Tuesday's game as if it were a rainout.

"The team is working with MLB and experts to continue to monitor the weather and air quality index for the week before setting the schedule for a doubleheader," the team said.

Major League Baseball games, including the New York Yankees' home game against the Chicago White Sox, went off as scheduled.

Media reports said that air quality alerts were triggered as far west as Minnesota and as far east as Massachusetts due to smoke drifting south from hundreds of wildfires in the Canadian province of Quebec.
