Twins' Alex Kirilloff to undergo season-ending wrist surgery

Less than a week after being placed on the injured list with right wrist inflammation, the 2022 season is over for Minnesota Twins outfielder Alex Kirilloff.

Kirilloff will undergo season-ending ulnar shortening surgery on Tuesday, the team announced Sunday.

The 24-year-old had surgery to repair a torn ligament in the same wrist last July, derailing his rookie campaign.

According to MLB.com's Do-Hyoung Park, Kiriloff could not swing a bat without pain and ultimately decided to have the procedure.

"Any time you're talking about shaving a bone down or shortening a bone, I mean, that's a substantial procedure," Twins manager Rocco Baldelli told reporters and Park. "But we're hopeful that by getting it done now, it gives us a chance to use the offseason to get right, to start swinging the bat again, to feel good, and to start getting ready for next year."

Kirilloff finishes the year slashing .250/.290/.361 with three home runs and 21 RBI in 45 games.

Selected No. 15 overall by Minnesota in 2016, Kirilloff made his major league debut last season. In 59 games, he batted .251/.299/.423 with eight home runs and 34 RBI.
