Twins' Luis Arraez, Dylan Bundy positive for COVID-19 amid feared outbreak

It was learned earlier on Thursday that Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli had tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the evening game at the Baltimore Orioles.

Minnesota's coronavirus situation became more worrisome ahead of that matchup.

According to Joe Trezza of the MLB website, Minnesota right-handed starting pitcher Dylan Bundy has tested positive for the virus, while ESPN added that infielder Luis Arraez also recorded a positive test.

Bench coach Jayce Tingler is serving as acting manager in Baldelli's place, but there are concerns Minnesota may be facing a COVID-19 outbreak ahead of the weekend. Trezza notes the Twins were still awaiting the outcomes of additional test results as of Thursday afternoon and that "flu-like symptoms" have recently impacted members of the Minnesota clubhouse.

Per Megan Ryan of The Star Tribune, Twins general manager Thad Levine said some players are dealing with a non-COVID illness considered to be mild. Ryan also explained that four coaches for the Tampa Bay Rays are currently sidelined because of coronavirus-related issues, and that the Twins played in Tampa last weekend.

Any type of outbreak would be a brutal blow for a Twins side that has won 11 of 13 games to climb to the top of the American League standings at 15-10 overall.
