Twins pitcher J.A. Happ tests positive for COVID-19 during intake testing

Minnesota Twins pitcher J.A. Happ will have to wait a little longer to begin throwing sessions at CenturyLink Sports Complex in Fort Myers, Florida.

According to The Athletic's Dan Hayes, Happ tested positive for COVID-19 during intake testing. He is asymptomatic.

It's unclear when Happ will rejoin the team and how the COVID-19 diagnosis will affect his buildup ahead of Opening Day.

The southpaw signed a one-year, $8 million deal with the Twins last month after spending two-and-a-half seasons with the New York Yankees.

During the pandemic-shortened campaign, the 38-year-old went 2-2 with a 3.47 ERA, 1.054 WHIP and 42 strikeouts in 49.1 innings. He owns a career 3.98 ERA and 1.301 WHIP.

Happ has also played for the Toronto Blue Jays, Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros, Pittsburgh Pirates and Seattle Mariners.
