Twins place OF Max Kepler, 1B Miguel Sano on 10-day IL

The AL Central-leading Minnesota Twins placed outfielder Max Kepler and first baseman Miguel Sano on the 10-day injured list on Saturday.

 Kepler has been out of action since July 24 with a toe fracture on his right foot. The 29-year-old is slashing .244/.344/.390 over 85 games with nine home runs and 39 RBI.

Sano heads to the IL with left knee inflammation. The 29-year-old had just returned to the Twins' lineup on July 26 after missing 75 games due to left knee surgery earlier in the year. In 20 games this season, Sano has five hits, a home run, and three RBI over 71 plate appearances

To Fill Kepler and Sano's spots on the active Roster, the Twins recalled infielder Tim Beckham and outfielder Mark Contreras from Triple-A St. Paul.

Beckham, 32, last appeared in the majors in 2019, playing 88 games for the Seattle Mariners. 

This season, in 33 games with St. Paul, Beckham is batting .406/.480/.587 with six home runs and 34 RBI. 

Contreras, 27, was slashing .221/.311/.399 with ten home runs and 42 RBI in 73 games for St. Paul. 

The speedy outfielder made his major league debut earlier this season with the Twins. Contreras compiled a hit, two RBI, and three runs scored in ten plate appearances.
