The Minnesota Twins reassigned the 2nd prospect on in their minor league system, infielder Brooks Lee, to Triple-A St. Paul on Friday afternoon. While the move was an expected one, it does come with some concern.

Brooks Lee Reassigned to Minnesota Twins minor league camp after back spasms

Lee was held out of what would have been his final Spring Training games, due to what the team is reporting as back spasms. According to Betsy Helfand (Pioneer Press), they still need to run more tests before they can determine what is wrong and how to fix it.

This news is slightly concerning because back issues are nothing to mess with. During Spring Training, Lee hit .333 with a .962 OPS that included 5 doubles, 1 homer and 1 triple, in 36 at-bats (13 games). Hopefully, his back spasms are not going to linger in any way or turn into something bigger.

It’s expected that, even while he wasn’t going to make the big league team out of camp, Lee will be up with the Twins at some point this summer. He’s just ready. Last year, the 2022 No. 8 overall pick out of Cal Poly hit .275 with a .808 OPS in his first full minor league season.

The Twins have had the 23-year-old Lee on the fast track to Major League Baseball since the moment they drafted him and he immediately started showing himself as the top prospect that they drafted him to be. Brooks is a shortstop but he’s expected to play 2B with the Twins, given Correa is at SS.
