Unbeaten Rays off to best start in MLB Wild Card era

With the game tied 0-0 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe launched a go-ahead solo home run to propel them to an MLB Wild Card era record 10-0 start to the 2023 season.

The seventh team to reach this feat since 1901, and the first in the wild card era.

The 2023 Rays join the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers, 1962 Pittsburgh Pirates, 1966 Cleveland Indians, 1981 Oakland Athletics, 1982 Atlanta Braves and the 1987 Milwaukee Brewers to start their season undefeated in ten straight.

The 1982 Braves and the 1987 Milwaukee Brewers both share hold of the all-time record of 13 straight wins to open a season.

Lowe's third straight game with a home run, he has seen himself catch fire over the last three games with nine RBI and seven runs scored in his last nine at-bats.

A lineup boasting five players with eight or more RBI on the season, and a pitching staff that has allowed only 18 total runs in the 10 games this season. The Rays look to be a favorite to contend for a World Series title in 2023.

With Tyler Glasnow inching his way back to the majors from injury, he would give them another huge arm to attack other teams with.

Looking to wash away the bad taste left in their mouths from missing the playoffs last season, The Rays will try to regain the form that saw them lead the American League in wins in both 2020 and 2021.

With three more games against the Boston Red Sox remaining in this series, the Rays would have the chance to tie the record Thursday afternoon against their division rival.

The potential record-breaking game would take place on the road Friday versus another divisional rival, the Toronto Blue Jays.
