The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Victor González from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed Lance Lynn on the bereavement list prior to Saturday’s game against the San Francisco Giants.

MLB roster rules require a player who is put on the bereavement list to be off the active roster for a minimum of three days, but no more than seven.

Lynn pitched six innings in the series opener but then left the team due to a death in his family. González was with the Dodgers in San Francisco on Friday night as part of their taxi squad.

Lynn’s final start of the regular season was a microcosm of his year and recent struggles. He walked the first two batters faced and later surrendered a home run, but managed to hold the Giants to just two runs.

In his 11 starts with the Dodgers, the veteran right-hander is 7-2 with a 4.36 ERA, 6.16 FIP and 1.27 WHIP. Overall this season Lynn has surrendered an MLB-worst 44 home runs that also ranks sixth-most all-time.

Lynn’s propensity to surrender the long ball, coupled with the emergence of multiple Dodgers rookie pitchers, has lent to some questions regarding his postseason role. Manager Dave Roberts has maintained confidence in Lynn, but stopped short of committing to him being part of the Dodgers’ postseason rotation.

Victor González back with Dodgers

González is on the active roster for his fourth stint with the team. He’s gone 2-3 with a 4.13 ERA and 1.13 WHIP across 33 games (one start) this year.

With Oklahoma City, the left-hander is 2-1 with a 5.40 ERA, one save and 22 strikeouts in 20 relief appearances. The Dodgers needing González takes him away from the OKC team as they play the Triple-A National Championship Game in Las Vegas on Saturday.
