The Oakland Athletics went viral on Saturday night for a comical misplay and the Washington Nationals were the beneficiary.

In the second inning, Nationals batter Ildemaro Vargas was at the plate against A's youngster Luis Medina. Vargas hit a ground ball back to Medina, who fielded it.

Medina jogged towards first. It appeared as if he was going to flip the ball to first, but then he didn't. Eventually, the first baseman got out of the way, thinking that Medina would take it himself and the play resulted in Vargas reaching.

Several places picked up on the misplay, including Jomboy Media.

It's been that kind of season for the Athletics, who have the worst record in baseball at 33-84. They've lost seven of their last 10 games and have a winning percentage of just .282.

The A's are also mired in a legal battle about possible relocation. As they look to move to Las Vegas, the players have been caught in the crosshairs.

The Nationals are also having a rough season, albeit significantly better than the A's. They are 52-66 on the year and in last place in the National League East.

They are mired in a lengthy rebuild but do have several talented young players that have come through via trades of Juan Soto, Josh Bell, Max Scherzer and Trea Turner in recent years.

The two teams will play again on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. ET as Ken Waldichuk (OAK) pitches against Trevor Williams, who takes the ball for the Nationals.
